Obituary

In Loving Memory of Azalee Greer

March 25, 1933 – October 23, 2026

Azalee Greer (née Glenn), beloved matriarch, mother, grandmother, and respected community member, passed away peacefully on Oct 23, 2026, at the age of 93.

Born in Union, South Carolina, on Mar 25, 1933, to Annie Bell Glenn, Azalee spent her early youth in South Carolina before making Detroit her home 75 years ago. On Dec 25, 1952, she united in holy matrimony with Marion Douglas Greer, with whom she shared 60 cherished years of marriage until his passing in 2012. Together, they built a lasting legacy grounded in faith, perseverance, and entrepreneurial grit, co-founding Greer Transportation and operating local Subway franchises.

A woman of deep work ethic and strength, Azalee devoted 35 years of service to Ford Motor Company before her retirement. She was a proud, active member of the UAW and a faithful worshiper at New Destiny Christian Fellowship (formerly New Light Baptist Church). Known for her no-nonsense wisdom, sharp wit, unwavering devotion to her family, and love of classic gospel music, she served as the beloved pillar of her family.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Marion Douglas Greer, and her beloved son, Carl Douglas Greer.

Azalee leaves to cherish her memory her loving daughters, Jacqueline Boatwright, Gloria Carter, and Patricia Wilson; 23 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, extended relatives, church family, and dear friends.
