Bernice Cullom

Bernice Cullom, a beloved sister, mother, friend, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2023, at Majestic Care Nursing Home in Livonia, MI. She was born to the late Jim and Alberta (Carrick) Cullom on March 18, 1936, in Algood, Tennessee. Bernice dedicated her life to Christ at an early age and lived her life as a shining example of faith and love.

From a young age, Bernice attended public school in Algood. She enjoyed her time there and made many lifelong friends. Bernice's kindness and delightful personality made her loved by everyone who knew her. One of the fondest memories shared with Bernice was when she attended the World's Fair in Knoxville, Tennessee. This experience filled her with joy and excitement.

Bernice had a passion for music and possessed a beautiful voice. She loved to sing and dance, bringing immense happiness to those around her. In her free time, she enjoyed going shopping and often visited her favorite store, Kmart. She found solace in going for rides and spending time with her sister Ernestine. Above all else, Bernice cherished moments spent with family and friends.

A dedicated volunteer when she was able, Bernice selflessly gave back to the community. Her commitment was recognized through numerous Volunteer of the Year awards that she received over the years. This recognition spoke volumes about her character and compassion for others.

Preceding her in death are brothers, Frank Shockley, Alvin Shockley (Ann), and Willie Mack Cullom (Brenda).

Bernice is survived by her loving son James Hill (daughter-in-law Carol; sister, Ernestine Hill and brother, Johnnie Cullom (sister-in-law Judy); as well as other extended family members and friends who will forever cherish memories of their time together.

The funeral service to honor and celebrate Bernice's life will be held on December 1st, 2023 at Thompson Funeral Home - Greenfield Chapel located at 15443 Greenfield Rd, Detroit, MI 48227. The service will commence at 10:30 AM. Following the service, Bernice will be laid to rest at Mount Hope Memorial Gardens in Livonia, MI. The burial ceremony will take place at 1:00 PM.

To say goodbye to Bernice and pay their respects, family and friends are welcomed to join the funeral service and burial ceremony. It is a time for everyone whose lives were touched by her kind soul and gentle spirit to come together, share their memories, and find solace in one another's company.

Bernice Cullum was a remarkable woman who filled the lives of those around her with love, laughter, and joy. She will be deeply missed but always remembered for her unwavering faith, infectious smile, and the warmth she brought to every room she entered. As we bid farewell to Bernice, let us celebrate the beautiful life she lived and rejoice in the everlasting impact she made on our hearts. May her soul find eternal peace in the embrace of her Creator.
