Glen Sanders, Sr.
Glen Sanders was born in Detroit, MI on February 7, 1951, to the late Jimmie Jones and Buella Gray. He was the youngest of five children. His siblings were Magnolia Hurnes, Alex Sanders, Columbus Hasberry, Julius Sanders, and Geneva Booker.
Glen was called home to glory on March 17, 2026, at 9:15 AM.
Glen graduated from Denby High School. After graduation, he received a scholarship and attended Miami University of Ohio. He later attended Lake Superior State College, where he received his Associate’s Degree in Business Administration.
He was an avid basketball player with a true passion for the sport. His protégé was the late James (Jimmie) Walker of the Detroit Pistons. They played basketball together throughout the city of Detroit in several intramural summer leagues. His basketball nickname was “Hawk.”
Glen loved deep sea fishing until God called him to become a fisher of men. He also loved to see youth accept Jesus Christ.
Glen accepted Jesus Christ at a very young age. He loved teaching Bible class and Sunday School at Holy Cross Missionary Baptist Church. He served as a Trustee and Deacon until he became ordained as a Reverend in 2006.
He was employed with the City of Detroit for over 36 years and held several positions, retiring as a Building Inspector. Some of the departments he worked in included Parks & Recreation, Substance Abuse, and Animal Control.
After retirement, he developed a love for golfing.
Glen is the proud father of two children: Michelle Sanders-Barnes (Shondta) and Glen Sanders Jr. His bonus children are Tiara Johnson, Isaiah Johnson, and Angelo Money.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Alex Sanders and Columbus Hasberry; and his sister, Geneva Booker.
Glen leaves to cherish his memory: a loving wife, Tanya Sanders; his children, Michelle and Glen Jr.; his brother, Julius Sanders; his sister, Magnolia Hurnes; his grandchildren, Kailee Sanders, Kaiden Rogers, and three additional grandchildren. In addition, he leaves his very special godmother, Aggie Lee Joins, along with many relatives, associates, and friends.
