Lawrence Shields

Lawrence Shields was born on May 4, 1948, in Rossville, Tennessee to the union of Eugene Shields and Mary Marshall Shields who preceded him in death. Lawrence is also preceded in death by 3 brothers Eugene Shields Jr., Obbie Shields, and a baby brother.

Lawrence is also preceded in death by a baby son Lawrence Shields Jr. Lawrence Shields attended Fayette County public schools in Tennessee.

His father affectionately called him “Flea" and his mother always called him "Fleety" He left Tennessee at an early age and moved to Detroit where he held several jobs. He worked at Ewald Steel, carwash jobs, and then in 1974 he found the job that he worked until he retired in 2013. While working there he met Ida Stevenson in 1979 whom he would date and later marry. Their union lasted for over 40 years until Ida's untimely death in December 2021.

Lawrence leaves behind to cherish his memory:

3 children: DeRhonda Shields of Oakland, TN; 2 sons Tarrence Shields and Michael Body-Shields of Detroit, MI; and 1 other daughter, Brendella Body of Detroit, Ml.

He also leaves behind 5 grandchildren Qiara, Dwight, Lameka, Jasmine, and Juanita, and a host of great-grandchildren. Lawrence also leaves behind to cherish his memory three cousins Chester, Elroy, and John and 1 brother-in-law Samuel Body and 1 sister-in-law Bobie Woodard.

Lawrence enjoyed watching sports on television whether it was baseball, football, basketball, or professional wrestling. Lawrence was great at telling stories that would make you laugh and remember the way he told them.
