Noleia Maria Saunders

Noleia Maria Saunders (née Scales), of Southgate, Michigan passed away on December 16, 2023 and was born on June 30, 1949 in Detroit, Michigan.

Noleia’s Journey

Noleia Maria Saunders was born June 30, 1949 in Detroit Michigan to the late Herman and Emily Scales. She was the oldest of six children. She graduated from Chadsey High School. 

Noleia moved to New York at the age of 19. In February 1972, she married Norman Saunders; from their union came a son, Devonn. Noleia worked at Con Edison as an executive assistant for 42 years, and retired in 2011. After a few years of retirement, she moved back home to Michigan to be closer to family. 

She loved music. Noleia enjoyed singing and dancing, sometimes writing songs, and going to karaoke. She would watch her favorite music videos over and over. General Hospital was her favorite soap opera, and she wouldn’t miss an episode. She loved watching movies and tv, especially game shows. Gathering with family and friends made her the happiest.  

Noleia made her transition Saturday, December 16, 2023 after fighting a long battle with cancer. She was proceeded in her death by her parents, Herman and Emily Scales, and sister Sarita. 

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her husband, Norman Saunders; two sons, Ronald Mallory and Devonn (Jennifer) Saunders; stepchildren Dustin and Devva, siblings; Karmenlita, Mike, Sonseeawhray, and Antonio; grandchildren; Kymara, Destin, and Josselynn. Nieces and nephews; Chris, Kiauna, Aisha, Tamar, Brittany, Navarro, and Brianna; great-niece and great-nephew Madison and Zaidan; and a host of friends and relatives.
