OBITUARY
Robert Atlas Lee, Jr. was born on 16 September 1925 to the parents of Lorene Redmond (Lee) and Robert Atlas Lee, Sr., who preceded him in death. He had four siblings who preceded him in death: an unnamed twin at birth, Izora (Norton), Lucille (Walker), and Flossie (Greer). He has one living sibling, Hattie Johnson, who resides in Lewisburg, Tennessee.
Robert began his educational studies in a one-room schoolhouse in Cornersville, Tennessee. He served in the United States Navy. He continued higher learning and studies at Tennessee State University, where he would graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry. It was at Tennessee State University where he met Letha Maurice Douglas (Lee), swooped her off her feet, and married her in holy matrimony.
Robert and Letha married on 19 June 1954 and moved to Pontiac, Michigan, where he began working for the United States Postal Office (USPO) as a railway mail thrower. Later, he would work for the USPO at the Fort Street Post Office in Detroit, Michigan, upon moving to Detroit in 1956, as mailroom personnel. He was an avid bowler and golfer, playing and competing on teams with friends and colleagues whom he met while working at the USPO. He and his teammates would travel and win a multitude of trophies while in competition. Upon retirement, he would learn how to swim and continue landscaping and gardening the property that he owned and lived in, while being active in the community.
With Letha, Robert would have two children, Sabrina Renee Lee (Gates) and Pamela Joy Lee. Sabrina would precede her father in death in July 1986. Pamela Joy resides and lives in Virginia after retiring from the United States Army with her two children, Robert’s grandchildren: Edgar Lee and Sabrina Renee Lee. Robert Atlas Lee, Jr. is survived by his wife Letha, sister Hattie, daughter Dr. Pamela Joy, and grandchildren Edgar Lee and Sabrina Renee Lee. He also is survived by nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends that he had the pleasure of meeting before he went home to live with our Lord and Savior on 07 April 2025.
He is loved and surely missed by his family and others whom he met along the way. He has flown home to be with the Lord.
Until we meet again
“Some bright morning when this life is over
I'll fly away
To that home on God's celestial shore
I'll fly away"
